Weekend Hashtag Project: #WHPsilhouetted

Weekend Hashtag Project is a series featuring designated themes & hashtags chosen by Instagram’s Community Team. For a chance to be featured on the Instagram blog, follow @instagram and look for a post announcing the weekend’s project every Friday.

Today marks the one year anniversary of Photos of You, the ability to tag people in your photos on Instagram! To celebrate, we’re bringing back one of our favorite Weekend Hashtag Project themes: silhouettes. The goal this weekend is to take creative silhouette photos. Some tips to get you started:

  • Silhouettes are all about light. Make sure your subject is positioned right in front of your light source, whether it be the setting sun, a bright window or a backlit screen.
  • Once you’ve framed your photo, tap the brightest part of your phone’s screen to set your exposure and get the silhouette just right.
  • Finally, don’t forget to tag the people silhouetted in your photo!

PROJECT RULES: Please only add the #WHPsilhouetted hashtag to photos taken over this weekend and only submit your own photographs to the project. Any image taken then tagged over the weekend is eligible to be featured right here Monday morning!

This weekend’s Instagram side project!

15 sec tribute and memorial video for the abandoned bldg near Liberty St Prk-Jersey Ave-Aetna St, Jersey City. Fitting first post for blog reboot focusing on the #graffitiarchives project. Much more coming down the pike.

A 15 sec vid memorial (orig posted on Instagram 3-22-14) for the soon-to-be-demolished #graffitiwarehouse near the Liberty St Park pedestrian bridge/walkway. My friend and I stumbled upon it last autumn. I’ve returned many times since; each time imbued with greater appreciation for the art and artists. I will forever be inspired by those abandoned, toxic ruins by the canal, just beyond Lady Liberty’s shadow. More photos and video to come…

For a star to be born, there is one thing that must happen: a gaseous nebula must collapse.

So collapse.
Crumble.
This is not your destruction.

This is your birth.

And it has been
one hell
of a year.
I have worn
the seasons
under my sleeves,
on my thighs,
running down my cheeks.
This is what
surviving
looks like, my dear.

Just one sentence and I’m addicted to this writer’s work already. Must check it out ASAP!

2013 was one long “life reboot.” So necessary despite the expected unpleasantness along the way. But everything changes and even the turmoil of “change” eventually quiets itself when confronted with the steel will of inner peace.

As winter winds down, I’m looking ahead and welcoming the surprises, disappointments, and lessons Father Time 2014 has in store. My journey led me to a new life in Jersey City last summer. And I not only lived to tell the tale…I captured much of it in photos and video.

The rest of this year will be dedicated to sharing glimpses of the people, places, and things responsible for my crazy-sexy-cool life. Consider this entry Jottingjohn’s unofficial blog reboot.
